Roberts RD-60 Retro leather DAB Radio
Saturday, 15 Aug 2009 ~ Posted by Mook
All colours available from £149.99
The Roberts Rd-60 has classic looks. A style about it that has seemingly been around forever.
The reason for this is because it pretty much HAS been around forever.
Roberts have been making Radios since 1932, and the current “RD-60 Revival” follows the style they used during the 50’s. A style any child of the 60’s will be familiar with, as they were a commonly seen item in most homes.
The clever bit comes from taking that retro stlye, and dropping in a high quality DAB digital tuner.
The radio itself, is made from wood, and clad in a stitched leather.
This leather comes in a wide range of colours and styles, offering classic retro to modern stainless steel. Subtle details such as the Brass hinges and battery latch, and brass ended handle, give a real feel of quality. As does the weight and general fit and finish.
On top of the radio are the tuner controls. Like any modern DAB radio the stations come “preset” and are selected using a tuning dial. You can see which station you are via the amber backlit display, which not only displays the station name, but also shows the current time, and name of the programme being broadcast.
As well as the DAB tuner, there is an FM tuner, should you have trouble picking up your chosen DAB station. There is also a “favourite” button, to enable instant access to a station of your choice.
There is also a headphone socket, and Aux-in socket, for connecting an MP3 player.
Being made of wood, the RD-60 produces a warm, rich sound, with plenty of depth. Designed for classical music, it manages to produce subtle low notes whilst reaching the peaks and highs asked of it. Overall, from such a small unit, the sound quality is exceptional.
Power comes from the mains, or, if you choose, 4 x D cell batteries, which are said to giveupto 120 hours of use.
Basic colours are priced at £149.99, with special colours rising to £199.99.
As with all our radios, a demonstration is available in store!
