What should replace my Pioneer Kuro with?
Tuesday, 11 Aug 2009 ~ Posted by Mook
Mook, if I wanted a new 42 / 50 to replace my 42 Pioneer Kuro 720p, what would you recommend? As you’ve probably figured, I’m all about the quality. I’d rather go for a smaller plasma that is better quality, than a larger size with compromise.
Now that Pioneer have stopped making them, what’s replaced them??
Great question, thank you. As I understand it, Pioneer had signed an agreement with Panasonic to use their Plasma panels for thier 2009 range of Televsisions. For whatever reason, most likely economical, they decided not to persue that path and pull out of the TV market altogether.
So, if Pioneer were going to use a Panasonic panel, it stands to reason that this years range of Panasonic plasma is pretty good. Although Pioneer would have used thier own engine, the foundation of the Panasonic panel would be what would have made the tv look special.
So, the obvious place to look would be the 2009 range of Panasonic Televisions. In particular the V10 series.
They aren’t Pioneer money, but are about the best large Panel TV’s I’ve seen recently. You get gimmicks you might not want, but again the foundation of the new Neo-pdp panel means the picture quality is exceptional.
On top of things like Freesat and Viera cast (that YouTube through the TV) the Panels are THX video certified, meaning you’ll be able to watch Blu-ray EXACTLY as the director intended. 600hz with 24p smooth film means a blur free image, with incredible contrast. All in a thin, stylish chassis.
Price wise, you’re looking around £1300 for the 42″, which might sound cheap, but don’t judge until you’ve seen one running.
hope that helps
