What is a Hepa filter?
Wednesday, 08 Jul 2009 ~ Posted by Mook
A Hepa (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filter is a high filtration exhaust filter, usually found on vacuum cleaners. It has such a fine gauze, and anti-bacterial properties, that it will eliminate 99.9% of airborne particals.
This means it is ideal for use in households where the residents suffer from hayfever, asthma or dust allergies, and as such a lot of machines with Hepa Filters are generally supported by the British Allegy Foundation.
The downside of Hepa filters, is they can be expensive to replace. therefore, we would only recommend buying a machine with HEPA filters if you need them, otherwise a machine with standard filtration will suffice.
Machines which currently use Hepa filters include, Dyson, Sebo, Miele, Bosch and Panasonic.

Is that why cheap HEPA vacuum cleaners get blocked up all the time?

Not really. Cheaper bagless machines get blocked up all the time because Dyson has patented all the decent technology. Hepa filters are no more likely to get blocked than normal ones. Although the cheaper the machine, the more likely it is to get blocked anyway, through poor design.
